Manufacturer of the Year- Silver 2014

Custom Impressions has received its fourth Manufacturer of the Year Award, having won in 2007, 2008, 2011 and now 2014. This is a national award, with the largest pool of manufacturers, and is awarded to the businesses with the highest increase of sales from their previous year. They are the only business to have gained this title for two consecutive years, and they plan to continue growing. They are nearly tripling their production space in 2015, from 3800 to 10,500 square feet. Their company anticipates hiring two more employees in 2015, which would bring them from one employee in 2003 to nine.

W.O.W.I.E. Voted to Gift Funds for New Child Care Center

Photo taken by the Washington Evening Journal

Women of Washington Iowa Endowment (W.O.W.I.E.) voted to gift the estimated price of $850,000 for the new child care center to be built at Stewart Elementary. W.O.W.I.E. is responsible for the former YWCA endowment. This fund focuses on empowering women and supporting children, stressing the need for child care.

Superintendent, Mike Jorgensen, feels that this will open opportunities to partner with an established child care program, "ideally forming a partnership with the YMCA." The partnering organization would be offered a very reasonable lease agreement for the new child care center, and have the close partnership of the school. While this is all just at starting point, there is promise for good things to come. "We are really appreciative of the WOWIE group for doing this for the school district," said Jorgensen.

Washington County is in the Top Ten Best Places to Get a Mortgage- Statewide

SmartAsset.com, a personal finance technology company, partnered with over 130 data partners to compose this, a list of best mortgages. Not only is Washington ranked 6th in the top ten counties, but Iowa is holding strong as a national leader too.

This week's WEDG blog shared, “Washington County is a best bet for mortgage seekers because of strong community lenders, good realtors, reasonable taxes, and a stable and affordable housing market. That combination is what sets us apart from many parts of the state and the nation,” said Ed Raber of the Washington Economic Development Group.
